Tekla Detailer / Structural Steel Draftsman

Location: Whitefield
Salary: £46,000 - £54,000
Working pattern: Office-based 3 days per week

The Opportunity

Are you an experienced Tekla Detailer or CAD Engineer looking for a new challenge where your technical expertise can make a real impact?

We're working with a well-established business delivering complex structural steel projects across a range of sectors, including commercial, industrial and infrastructure. With involvement in some impressive projects across the globe, this is an opportunity to join a dynamic, innovative team where no two projects are quite the same.

The business is looking for an experienced Tekla professional who can take ownership of modelling and detailing work, contribute to project delivery and help support the development of other team members.

Bridge experience would be particularly valuable, although candidates with a strong background in other areas of structural steelwork are encouraged to apply.

The Role

You'll play an important role in taking projects from modelling through to detailed fabrication information, ensuring drawings and models are accurate, complete and delivered to agreed programmes.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing and checking material take-off (MTO) models using 3D CAD software, ensuring accuracy and completeness before issuing material information.

  • Developing typical connections and applying them across working models.

  • Completing detailed modelling requirements, including lifting holes, handrailing and other fabrication details.

  • Preparing and checking fabrication drawings, alongside paint and masking drawings.

  • Producing general arrangement (GA) and marking plan drawings across a variety of structures.

  • Applying your understanding of steel grades, bolt specifications and welding practices.

  • Liaising with clients' engineers, subcontractors and internal departments to resolve technical queries and keep projects moving.

  • Raising and managing technical queries and information requests.

  • Taking responsibility for the accuracy and quality of your own work, ensuring thorough self-checking before submission.

  • Understanding the wider project lifecycle, including manufacturing and site erection processes.

  • Supporting and training other team members, sharing your technical knowledge and experience.

  • Taking a lead role on projects where required, coordinating modelling and detailing activities, managing workloads and monitoring team progress.

  • Working to agreed project programmes and deadlines, ensuring both your own workload and the team's output remain on track.

What We're Looking For

We're keen to speak with experienced Tekla professionals who can bring strong technical knowledge and confidence to the team.

Ideally, you'll have:

  • At least 10 years' experience using Tekla, with 20+ years particularly desirable.

  • Previous experience working for a structural steel fabricator or specialist steel detailing business.

  • A strong understanding of structural steel modelling and detailing across commercial, industrial or infrastructure projects.

  • Bridge modelling and detailing experience would be a significant advantage.

  • Good knowledge of fabrication drawings, GA drawings, connections and material take-offs.

  • An understanding of steel grades, bolts, welding and fabrication processes.

  • The confidence to take ownership of your work and check drawings and models thoroughly.

  • Experience supporting, mentoring or coordinating other detailers.

  • The ability to manage priorities and deliver work to project deadlines.

  • Strong communication skills and the confidence to liaise with clients and colleagues across different departments.

Candidates must be UK-based and able to work from the Whitefield office at least three days per week. Bury is the preferred office location.

What's On Offer?

  • Salary of £46,000 - £54,000, depending on experience.

  • The opportunity to work on technically challenging structural steel projects.

  • Exposure to major projects across a variety of sectors and international markets.

  • A collaborative and innovative working environment.

  • The opportunity to take a lead role, influence project delivery and support other team members.

  • A varied position where your experience and technical knowledge will be genuinely valued.
