Senior Quantity Surveyor - Structural Steel

Location: Ireland - Southern Ireland projects
Salary: Competitive, depending on experience
Employment: Full-time, permanent
Sector: Structural Steel / Construction

Are you an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor with a strong structural steel or construction background looking for your next opportunity?

This is a chance to join an established structural steel contractor delivering projects across Ireland and the UK, with the opportunity to take ownership of the commercial management of major projects from cost planning through to final account.

The Role

As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you'll play a key role in managing the commercial performance of structural steel projects.

You'll work closely with clients, subcontractors, site teams and project management, taking responsibility for procurement, valuations, variations, claims, payments and final accounts.

The role will involve regular site visits and requires someone who is comfortable taking ownership of commercial matters while working as part of a wider project team.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Manage subcontractor procurement, including work packages and finalising subcontractor accounts.
  • Review tender and construction drawings and identify changes or alterations.
  • Complete detailed take-offs for structural steel, decking and cladding.
  • Manage and negotiate variations and contractual claims with clients.
  • Prepare and submit interim payment applications.
  • Compile, submit and finalise client accounts.
  • Chase outstanding client payments.
  • Compile labour and equipment allocation sheets for site activities.
  • Carry out regular site visits and work closely with site teams.
  • Monitor project costs and commercial performance.
  • Manage the wider commercial aspects of projects from initial cost planning through to completion.
  • Identify commercial risks and opportunities throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Work closely with clients, subcontractors and internal project teams to resolve commercial and contractual matters.

About You

We're looking for someone who has genuine commercial experience within structural steel or a closely related construction environment.

You'll ideally have:

  • 7+ years' Quantity Surveying experience.
  • Strong knowledge of structural steelwork or similar construction projects.
  • A relevant Quantity Surveying degree or professional qualification.
  • Strong understanding of commercial and contractual processes.
  • Experience managing variations, claims, procurement and final accounts.
  • Experience preparing valuations and payment applications.
  • Ability to read drawings and carry out detailed quantity take-offs.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills.
  • Good commercial awareness and attention to detail.
  • The ability to work independently and take ownership of your responsibilities.
  • Confidence working alongside site, project and commercial teams.
  • Good knowledge of Excel, Word, Outlook and project management software.

Structural Steel Experience

Previous experience within the Irish structural steel market would be an advantage, but it isn't essential.

We're particularly interested in candidates who understand the commercial side of projects involving:

  • Structural steel
  • Steel fabrication and erection
  • Decking
  • Cladding
  • Subcontractor packages
  • Commercial construction contracts

Why Consider the Role?

  • Senior commercial position within an established structural steel business.
  • Opportunity to work on significant projects across Southern Ireland.
  • Genuine ownership of project commercial performance.
  • Variety across procurement, valuations, variations, claims and final accounts.
  • Regular involvement with both site and project teams.
  • Opportunity to work across the full project lifecycle.
  • Competitive salary based on experience.

If you're an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor with strong commercial knowledge and a background in structural steel or similar construction projects, we'd be interested in speaking with you.
