Senior Quantity Surveyor - Structural Steel

Location: Leicestershire
Salary: Up to £65,000
Job Type: Permanent, Full Time

The Company

The steel leaving this site finds its way into the infrastructure that keeps the UK moving, from rail and highways to major construction projects.

This is a long-established specialist steel fabricator with decades of experience behind it, a substantial manufacturing site and a reputation built on getting complex work right.

The order book is there. The projects are there. Now they need a Quantity Surveyor who can make sure the commercial side keeps pace.

The Role

You'll sit at the centre of the commercial operation, working alongside Project Managers, Estimators and the production team to keep projects financially on track.

  • Own the commercial position across live steel fabrication projects, from initial costs through to final account.
  • Measure work, manage valuations and make sure legitimate variations are identified and recovered.
  • Track project costs and forecasts, flagging commercial risks before they become expensive problems.
  • Manage subcontract packages and keep supply-chain costs aligned with agreed budgets.
  • Negotiate with clients and suppliers when the numbers need challenging.
  • Close out final accounts and use what you learn to improve future projects.

The Candidate

You'll already understand how money moves through a construction or fabrication project and be comfortable working with drawings, quantities and contracts.

You'll need:

  • Quantity Surveying experience within structural steel, steel fabrication or a closely related construction environment.
  • Experience measuring and valuing works, managing variations and dealing with final accounts.
  • The ability to read technical or fabrication drawings and understand what you are pricing.
  • Experience working with NEC, JCT or similar forms of contract.
  • Strong commercial awareness and the confidence to challenge costs when the numbers don't stack up.

Nice to have:

  • Experience working within a specialist steel fabrication environment.
  • Relevant Quantity Surveying qualification or professional membership.

Why Consider It?

  • Up to £65,000, depending on experience.
  • Work on infrastructure and construction projects where the steel you are managing actually ends up in the real world.
  • A long-established business with a skilled workforce and a substantial manufacturing operation.
  • A role where your commercial decisions have a direct impact on project performance.
  • The opportunity to work closely with both the commercial and production sides of the business rather than being stuck behind a desk dealing with spreadsheets all day.

How to Apply

If you're a Quantity Surveyor who understands steel, fabrication and the commercial realities behind a project, send over your details.

I'll give you the full picture, including the company and the projects, and we can have an honest conversation about whether it's the right move for you.
