Structural Steel Estimator

Location: Wexford, Ireland
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Contract: Permanent, Full-Time
Working Arrangement: Hybrid working available following successful onboarding

Turn Your Estimating Expertise into Commercial Success

Are you an experienced Structural Steel Estimator looking for an opportunity to take ownership of tenders, influence commercial decisions and contribute to securing exciting construction projects?

We're working with an established structural steelwork business looking to strengthen its commercial team as it continues to grow. This is an opportunity to play a key role in preparing competitive tenders for fabrication and erection projects, working closely with clients, suppliers and internal teams to turn project requirements into accurate, commercially viable proposals.

With hybrid working available following a successful onboarding period, this role offers the opportunity to develop your career within a collaborative environment where technical knowledge, attention to detail and commercial awareness are valued.

What You'll Be Doing

As Structural Steel Estimator, you'll manage the estimating process from reviewing initial enquiries through to preparing tender submissions and supporting the handover of successful projects.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing accurate and competitive estimates for structural steel fabrication and erection projects.

  • Reviewing architectural and structural drawings, specifications and tender documentation to establish project scope and requirements.

  • Identifying commercial risks, potential challenges and opportunities within each tender.

  • Completing detailed quantity take-offs and preparing material schedules.

  • Obtaining and assessing quotations from suppliers and subcontractors to establish competitive project costs.

  • Liaising with clients, engineers, project managers and other stakeholders throughout the tender process.

  • Preparing comprehensive tender submissions and ensuring deadlines are consistently met.

  • Attending pre-tender and post-tender meetings where required.

  • Supporting value engineering exercises to identify practical and commercially effective solutions.

  • Maintaining accurate estimating records, pricing information and tender documentation.

  • Supporting the commercial and project teams with the handover of successful tenders.

  • Monitoring material prices, supplier costs and market conditions to maintain competitive estimates.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for a methodical and commercially focused Estimator who understands structural steelwork and can produce accurate tenders while managing competing priorities.

Ideally, you'll bring:

  • Previous experience estimating structural steel fabrication projects.

  • A background in structural steelwork or a closely related construction or engineering sector.

  • The ability to interpret structural drawings, technical specifications and engineering documentation.

  • Experience preparing detailed cost estimates, quantity take-offs and tender submissions.

  • Strong numerical, analytical and organisational skills.

  • Commercial awareness, including an understanding of project costs, supplier pricing and contractual requirements.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.

  • The ability to manage multiple tenders simultaneously while working to tight deadlines.

  • Strong communication skills and the confidence to liaise with clients, suppliers and internal teams.

  • A full driving licence and eligibility to work in Ireland.

Experience with estimating software, fabrication processes, steel erection methodologies, procurement or supply chain management would be advantageous.

Knowledge of BIM and Tekla drawings would also be beneficial, as would a third-level qualification in Quantity Surveying, Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline.

What Kind of Person Will Thrive Here?

You'll be organised, proactive and comfortable taking ownership of your workload. You'll combine attention to detail with a practical understanding of how structural steel projects are delivered, ensuring your estimates are accurate, competitive and commercially sound.

You'll also enjoy working collaboratively, building positive relationships and finding solutions that balance client requirements with project costs and delivery expectations.

What's on Offer?

  • Competitive salary, dependent on experience.

  • Permanent, full-time employment.

  • Hybrid working available following successful onboarding.

  • Career progression opportunities within a growing business.

  • Ongoing training and professional development.

  • A supportive and collaborative working environment.

  • The opportunity to contribute to a varied portfolio of structural steelwork projects across Ireland and the UK.
