Staff High Voltage Electrical Engineer (EPC / Substation Design) * California

The Company ⚡

This is one of the fastest-scaling organisations operating in the advanced energy and electrification space, building infrastructure that sits directly behind the transition to large-scale electrified industry.

At its core, the business is developing and operating high-capacity electrical systems that support energy-intensive industrial processes and grid-connected expansion. The engineering environment is fast-moving, highly technical, and backed by significant long-term investment into infrastructure and capability.

The work includes large substation and transmission-level systems (69kV-345kV), integrated into complex industrial facilities where reliability, uptime, and scale are critical to success.

This is not a maintenance environment. It's a build-and-scale engineering function with real ownership over how high-voltage systems are designed, delivered, and improved over time.

The Role

This is a senior-level high-voltage EPC engineering role sitting at the centre of design, analysis, and delivery.

You would be responsible for:

* Leading end-to-end design of high-voltage AC systems for industrial substations (69kV-345kV)

* Developing protection & control schemes, grounding systems, and single-line diagrams

* Owning technical input into grid interconnection and utility coordination discussions

* Performing fault studies, load flow analysis, and system performance modelling

* Reviewing complex vendor packages, RFIs, and construction-stage design queries

* Acting as Engineer of Record on critical high-voltage infrastructure packages

You won't be working in isolation - this role sits directly between engineering, construction, and commissioning, meaning your designs are actively built, tested, and energised in the field.

Why This Role Exists 📈

This hire is part of a wider expansion of the organisation's high-voltage EPC capability as project volume increases and infrastructure complexity grows.

The business is scaling its internal engineering function to support a growing pipeline of grid-connected industrial developments and long-term electrification projects.

Put simply: more work, more complexity, and a need for deeper in-house technical ownership.

The Candidate

Must Have:

* Degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET accredited or equivalent)

* Active Professional Engineer (PE) licence in California, or eligibility via reciprocity

* Strong background in high-voltage substation or transmission-level design

* Hands-on experience with protection, grounding, and power system studies

* Familiarity with tools such as PSSE, PSLF, PSCAD, ASPEN OneLiner (or equivalent)

Nice to Have:

* EPC environment or large-scale infrastructure project delivery experience

* Field exposure (construction, commissioning, or troubleshooting HV systems)

* Utility or ISO/RTO interface experience

* Exposure to HVDC or advanced grid integration systems

The Opportunity 🔧

This is a chance to step into a technically significant role where your work directly impacts real-world high-voltage infrastructure being designed, built, and energised at scale.

You'll gain exposure across the full project life cycle - from early design through to commissioning - within an environment that is actively building out its engineering capability rather than maintaining legacy systems.

For the right person, this offers a rare combination of technical depth, project scale, and genuine influence over how systems are engineered.
