Site Quantity Surveyor

Location: Ireland / UK - Site-Based
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

Take ownership of the commercial performance of live construction projects

Are you an experienced Quantity Surveyor with a background in structural steelwork who enjoys being close to the action on site? This is an opportunity to play a key role in protecting project margins, managing commercial risk and ensuring completed work is accurately valued and paid for.

Working across a varied portfolio of structural steel projects, you'll collaborate with site teams, project managers and technical colleagues to turn site progress, drawings and contractual requirements into clear, accurate commercial outcomes.

The Role

As Site Quantity Surveyor, you'll be responsible for managing the commercial aspects of live projects, ensuring work completed is properly valued, variations are captured and project costs remain under control.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing and submitting monthly applications for payment in line with contractual requirements.

  • Measuring and valuing completed structural steelwork on active construction sites.

  • Identifying, recording and negotiating variations, claims and additional works.

  • Monitoring site progress against fabrication output, erection programmes and project budgets.

  • Maintaining accurate cost-to-complete forecasts and identifying potential commercial risks.

  • Providing project managers with clear commercial reports, cost updates and recommendations.

  • Managing contractual correspondence and maintaining supporting records for valuations and claims.

  • Working with project teams to resolve commercial issues and protect project profitability.

  • Preparing and agreeing final accounts, ensuring all completed work and variations are accounted for.

  • Using relevant technical information, drawings and cost systems to support accurate commercial reporting.

About You

You'll be a commercially minded Quantity Surveyor who understands the practical and contractual challenges of delivering structural steelwork projects. You'll be confident working with site teams and clients, with the ability to identify commercial opportunities and address potential issues before they affect the bottom line.

Ideally, you'll bring:

  • Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor within structural steelwork or a closely related construction environment.

  • Experience measuring and valuing work on live construction sites.

  • The ability to interpret technical drawings, contract terms and contractual requirements.

  • Confidence managing variations, claims, applications for payment and final accounts.

  • An understanding of fabrication and erection programmes and their impact on project costs.

  • Strong numerical, analytical and written communication skills.

  • A proactive approach to identifying commercial risks and finding practical solutions.

  • The flexibility to travel regularly to project sites across Ireland and the UK.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

  • Commercial influence: Play a direct role in recovering project revenue, protecting margins and improving cash flow.

  • End-to-end project exposure: Gain visibility of the process from technical design and fabrication through to site erection.
