Site Manager

Location: Oxford
Salary: £45,000 - £50,000

Take the lead on site delivery and make every project count

Are you an experienced Site Manager with a background in steelwork installation, construction or a similar environment? Do you enjoy leading site teams, coordinating subcontractors and making sure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to a high standard?

This is an opportunity to take ownership of site operations, working closely with project and contracts teams to keep installations on track, maintain high safety standards and ensure work is completed to specification.

With a mix of office-based responsibilities and regular site visits, you'll play a key role throughout the project lifecycle, from initial surveys and pre-start checks through to final inspections and project handover.

What you'll be doing

  • Manage site operations: Oversee installation activities, labour resources and subcontractors to ensure work is completed safely, on programme and within budget.

  • Plan ahead: Carry out site surveys and pre-start visits, checking access, working areas, levels and setting-out requirements before work begins.

  • Champion health and safety: Prepare and maintain RAMS, conduct site audits, deliver inductions and toolbox talks, and ensure safe working practices are followed.

  • Lead site teams: Coordinate site personnel and subcontractors, allocate resources effectively and provide guidance, coaching and support to improve performance.

  • Monitor progress: Track programme delivery, identify issues early and communicate delays or concerns to the relevant contracts team.

  • Maintain quality: Inspect completed installations, check work against technical drawings and specifications, raise non-conformance reports where necessary, and coordinate corrective actions.

  • Manage project records: Keep accurate site diaries, photographic records, labour information, timesheets and progress reports.

  • Control costs: Monitor labour and site expenditure, challenge costs where appropriate and work with contracts and quality teams to support commercial performance.

  • Coordinate project close-out: Support snagging, final inspections and handover activities to ensure projects are completed to the required standard.

  • Work collaboratively: Attend site and management meetings and liaise with design, detailing, contracts, quality and accounts teams throughout the project.

What we're looking for

You'll be a practical, organised and confident Site Manager who can take control of site activities, communicate clearly with different stakeholders and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.

Ideally, you'll bring:

  • Experience managing site installations, steelwork projects or construction site operations.

  • A strong understanding of construction health and safety legislation and site procedures.

  • The ability to interpret technical drawings and check the quality and accuracy of installed work.

  • Experience coordinating subcontractors, labour teams, plant and equipment.

  • Strong planning, problem-solving and resource management skills.

  • Good written and verbal communication, with the ability to produce clear reports and maintain accurate records.

  • Confidence managing programmes, monitoring costs and resolving site issues.

  • A flexible approach, with the willingness to travel to sites and work outdoors when required.

  • Basic IT skills, including email, Word and spreadsheets.

Essential training and qualifications

  • Crane Supervisor qualification (minimum requirement).

  • SSSTS (minimum requirement).

  • CSCS Gold Card.

  • IPAF and PASMA.

A First Aid certificate would also be beneficial.

What you can expect

  • Salary of £45,000 - £50,000, depending on experience.

  • A varied role combining office-based planning and coordination with regular site involvement.

  • The opportunity to take ownership of site delivery and make a tangible contribution to project success.

  • A collaborative working environment where safety, quality and teamwork are important.

  • The opportunity to develop site teams and help drive improvements in performance and standards.
