Traveling Site Manager - Structural Steel

Location: Nationwide Travel | United States
Employment: Permanent, Full-Time
Industry: Structural Steel Fabrication & Construction

About the Opportunity

We're partnering with an established, nationally recognised structural steel fabrication company seeking an experienced Traveling Site Manager to represent its interests on major construction projects across the United States.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong background in structural steel erection, field project management or site supervision who enjoys working on complex projects, coordinating with multiple stakeholders and resolving challenges in the field.

You'll act as the fabrication company's primary on-site representative, ensuring effective communication between the fabrication facility, general contractor and third-party steel erection contractor.

This is not a traditional Superintendent position responsible for directly managing ironworker crews. Instead, the role focuses on site coordination, problem-solving, material logistics and ensuring the fabrication and erection processes remain aligned.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Acting as the company's primary representative on active construction sites.

  • Coordinating with general contractors, steel erection subcontractors and project stakeholders.

  • Monitoring structural steel deliveries, material availability and site logistics.

  • Reviewing structural steel drawings and identifying fabrication or installation discrepancies.

  • Coordinating field fixes and resolving technical issues with fabrication and project management teams.

  • Supporting RFIs, NCRs, drawing revisions and other project documentation.

  • Monitoring erection progress, sequencing and potential scheduling issues.

  • Attending site coordination meetings and providing regular updates to internal teams.

  • Identifying potential delays and working proactively to resolve problems.

  • Maintaining effective communication between the jobsite, fabrication facility and project management teams.

  • Helping ensure projects progress safely, efficiently and in accordance with specifications.

What We're Looking For

  • Strong experience in structural steel erection, field project management or site supervision.

  • Background working for a structural steel fabricator, erector or specialist steel construction contractor.

  • Good understanding of structural steel fabrication processes and field erection activities.

  • Ability to read and interpret structural steel drawings and construction documentation.

  • Experience coordinating with general contractors, erection subcontractors and fabrication teams.

  • Understanding of erection sequencing, steel deliveries, site logistics and installation challenges.

  • Experience identifying and resolving field discrepancies, RFIs and fabrication-related issues.

  • Strong communication, organisation and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work independently and represent the company professionally on-site.

  • Willingness to travel nationwide for extended project assignments.

Relevant backgrounds include:

  • Structural Steel Field Superintendent

  • Steel Erection Project Manager

  • Field Project Manager

  • Structural Steel Site Manager

  • Erection Manager

  • General Foreman / Field Operations Manager

You don't necessarily need previous experience as a Site Manager. Candidates with strong field-based structural steel erection or project management experience are encouraged to apply.

Working Conditions & Travel

  • Travel: Nationwide assignments across major construction projects.

  • Project Duration: Typically 16-24 weeks per assignment, depending on project requirements.

  • Home Rotation: Generally opportunities to travel home approximately every two weeks.

  • Accommodation: Company-covered hotel accommodation and project-related travel expenses.

  • Allowances: Additional vehicle and food allowances may be available, depending on the agreed package.

  • Employment: Permanent, full-time position.

What's on Offer?

  • Competitive base salary, depending on experience.

  • Company-supported travel and accommodation.

  • Additional travel-related allowances.

  • Opportunity to work on major structural steel construction projects nationwide.

  • Significant autonomy and responsibility as the company's on-site representative.

  • Exposure to large-scale commercial and industrial construction projects.

  • Long-term career development within an established structural steel fabrication business.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

This is an opportunity to join a well-established structural steel fabrication organisation with a strong national project portfolio and substantial in-house capabilities.

You'll have the chance to work on major construction projects, apply your structural steel expertise and take ownership of site coordination without being responsible for directly supervising the erection workforce.

For an experienced Steel Erection PM, Field Superintendent or Site Manager looking for a position that combines technical knowledge, project coordination and independent responsibility, this could be an excellent next step.
