Senior Quantity Surveyor - Structural Steel

Location: Dublin, Ireland
Job Type: Full-time, permanent
Sector: Structural Steel / Construction

The Company

The steel on these projects doesn't simply leave the fabrication facility and disappear onto site.

There is a commercial process behind every tonne - from the original tender and procurement through variations, valuations and claims, right through to the final account.

This is a specialist structural steel contractor delivering major projects across Ireland and the UK, with work spanning design, fabrication, erection, cladding and associated steelwork.

With projects continuing to grow in scale, they are looking for an experienced Quantity Surveyor who can take ownership of the commercial side and make sure the numbers work from start to finish.

The Role

This is a senior commercial position where you will have responsibility across the full project lifecycle.

You will:

  • Own the commercial position on structural steel projects from initial cost planning through to completion.
  • Procure subcontract packages, negotiate terms and manage subcontractor accounts through to finalisation.
  • Manage variations and claims, working directly with clients to protect commercial position and recover additional costs.
  • Prepare interim payment applications, client accounts and final accounts, while keeping outstanding payments moving.
  • Identify changes between tender and construction drawings and assess their commercial impact.
  • Visit sites regularly, working closely with project and site teams to understand what is happening on the ground.

You will also complete take-offs for structural steel, decking and cladding, compile labour and equipment allocation information and provide commercial input throughout project delivery.

The Candidate

This role is for an experienced Quantity Surveyor who understands that structural steel projects require more than simply keeping a spreadsheet updated.

You will need:

  • Minimum 7 years' Quantity Surveying experience.
  • A Degree or relevant Quantity Surveying qualification.
  • Strong knowledge of structural steelwork or similar construction projects.
  • Proven experience managing variations, claims, procurement and final accounts.
  • Strong commercial and contractual understanding.
  • Experience negotiating with clients, subcontractors and suppliers.
  • The ability to work independently while remaining closely connected to the wider project team.
  • Good working knowledge of Excel, Word, Outlook and project management software.

Previous experience within the Irish steelwork market would be useful, but it isn't essential.

What matters most is that you understand construction commercially and can take ownership when the project, the client and the numbers all need attention at the same time.

Why Consider It?

  • A senior commercial role within a specialist structural steel contractor.
  • Responsibility across the full commercial lifecycle rather than a narrow QS function.
  • Exposure to significant structural steel projects across Ireland and the UK.
  • Regular involvement with clients, subcontractors, site teams and project management.
  • The opportunity to influence procurement, variations, claims and final commercial outcomes.
  • A Dublin-based opportunity with genuine responsibility rather than simply another QS position carrying a senior title.

How to Apply

If you're an experienced Quantity Surveyor with a background in structural steel or a closely related construction environment, this could be worth a conversation.
