Quality Engineer / Quality Inspector - Structural Steel
Location: Dublin, Ireland
Salary: Competitive, depending on experience
Job Type: Permanent | Full-time
The Company
Quality is critical when you're delivering structural steel projects where every component needs to meet the required specification before it reaches site.
This established structural steel business is looking to strengthen its quality function with a Quality professional who can work across site teams, contractors, subcontractors and clients to ensure projects consistently meet the required standards.
The Role
You'll have responsibility for both Quality Assurance and Quality Control, making sure processes are followed correctly and that any issues are identified and dealt with before they become larger problems.
You will:
- Ensure agreed processes are followed to prevent defects and maintain project quality.
- Review method statements, Inspection & Test Certificates (ITCs), and W1 and W2 documentation.
- Carry out site inspections and quality audits.
- Verify that materials and workmanship meet project specifications and required standards.
- Identify quality issues and snags, escalating them appropriately.
- Maintain accurate quality records, including inspection reports and Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs).
- Track NCRs and monitor corrective actions through to completion.
- Prepare quality reports for management and clients.
- Ensure projects remain compliant with specifications, regulatory requirements and relevant standards, particularly ISO 9001.
- Work closely with site engineers, contractors and subcontractors to resolve quality issues.
- Liaise with client representatives and inspectors throughout project delivery.
Continuous Improvement
This role isn't simply about identifying problems after they've happened. You'll also be expected to look for patterns and help prevent the same issues from happening again.
You will:
- Identify recurring quality issues.
- Implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Improve workflows and quality processes.
- Support a culture of continuous improvement across project teams.
What They're Looking For
The role would suit a quality professional with experience in a construction, engineering, manufacturing or structural steel environment.
You should be comfortable:
- Working from technical project specifications.
- Carrying out site inspections and audits.
- Managing NCRs and corrective actions.
- Maintaining detailed quality documentation.
- Working with contractors, subcontractors and client representatives.
- Ensuring compliance with ISO 9001 and project-specific requirements.
- Communicating quality issues clearly and confidently to site and management teams.
Why This Role?
This is an opportunity to take genuine ownership of quality across structural steel projects, working directly with the people responsible for design, engineering, construction and site delivery.
You'll have a role in both preventing defects and improving processes, rather than simply recording problems once they occur.
