Senior Planner - Structural Steel

Location: Dublin, Ireland
Salary: Competitive, depending on experience
Job Type: Permanent | Full-time

The Company

Large structural steel projects don't stay on programme by accident. They require detailed planning, accurate reporting and someone who can identify potential problems before they impact delivery.

This established structural steel business is continuing to grow its project portfolio and is looking for an experienced Senior Planner to join the planning team and take responsibility for developing, managing and reporting project programmes across structural steel projects.

The Role

Reporting to the Planning Manager, you'll work closely with project managers, engineers and site teams to make sure projects are properly planned, monitored and reported throughout their lifecycle.

You will:

  • Lead the preparation of contract and project programmes for structural steel projects.
  • Develop and maintain accurate project schedules, ensuring key milestones and deliverables are clearly tracked.
  • Produce monthly progress reports covering milestones, resources and productivity.
  • Monitor project trends and planning data to identify potential risks and emerging issues.
  • Manage scheduling and reporting requirements across both tenders and live contracts.
  • Work closely with project managers, engineers and site teams to maintain accurate programme information.
  • Build relationships with clients and subcontractors as part of the planning and reporting process.
  • Carry out regular planning reviews and provide guidance on programme risks and mitigation.
  • Review construction methodologies and identify opportunities to improve project planning and delivery.

What They're Looking For

You should have:

  • A relevant third-level qualification.
  • At least 5 years' experience in project planning.
  • Experience working on construction or engineering projects; structural steel experience would be advantageous.
  • Strong knowledge of ASTA Powerproject, Primavera P6, Power BI, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret project data and identify trends.
  • Excellent communication skills and the confidence to work across multidisciplinary teams.
  • The ability to influence project decisions through clear planning information and reporting.

Why This Role?

This is an opportunity to take a senior role within the planning function of an established structural steel business.

You won't simply be maintaining a programme. You'll have the opportunity to influence project decisions, identify risks, support mitigation strategies and improve the way projects are planned and delivered.

You'll work closely with project management, engineering and site teams while also developing relationships with clients and subcontractors.

Key Areas of Responsibility

Success in the role will be measured through:

  • Accurate and achievable project programmes.
  • High-quality and timely progress reporting.
  • Clear visibility of programme risks and mitigation requirements.
  • Strong collaboration across project and site teams.
  • Identification and implementation of opportunities for continuous improvement.
