Are you an experienced Structural Design Engineer looking for your next opportunity within the structural steel industry?

The successful candidate will take a key role in developing safe, efficient and commercially viable structural engineering solutions, working closely with clients, project teams and other professionals throughout the design process.

The Role

As a Senior Design Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, analysing and delivering structural engineering solutions that meet client requirements, relevant standards and project objectives.

You will have the opportunity to work on a varied portfolio of structural steel projects, with responsibility for ensuring designs are structurally sound, practical to fabricate and erect, compliant and cost-effective.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Working closely with clients, colleagues and other professionals
  • Reviewing construction plans, structural drawings and specifications
  • Developing structural design solutions using industry-standard software
  • Applying loadings and calculating stresses and load paths through structural elements
  • Producing detailed structural calculations and design information
  • Ensuring designs meet relevant legal, environmental, health and safety requirements
  • Supporting tender and bid preparation
  • Working collaboratively with project and engineering teams to deliver designs within agreed timescales
  • Providing technical support throughout the project lifecycle
  • Preparing progress updates and reports for clients and senior management
  • Maintaining high standards of quality across all design work
  • Keeping up to date with industry standards, technical developments and best practice

The Technical Side

This role would suit a Design Engineer with a strong understanding of structural mechanics, steelwork design and engineering principles.

You'll ideally have experience with structural design software such as:

  • Tekla Structural Designer / Fastrak Building Designer
  • Fastrak Portal Frame
  • STAAD.Pro
  • MasterSeries / MasterFrame
  • MasterSeries Connections
  • Other relevant structural analysis and design packages

Experience with steel connection design would also be highly advantageous.

What They're Looking For

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience working within a structural design environment, ideally with a background in structural steel.

You'll ideally have:

  • Strong structural engineering and mechanics knowledge
  • Previous experience in a structural design role
  • Strong structural steel design experience
  • Excellent structural calculation capabilities
  • Experience using relevant structural analysis and design software
  • An understanding of steelwork fabrication and construction
  • Experience interpreting drawings, specifications and project requirements
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to work effectively with clients and multidisciplinary project teams
  • Experience with connection design would be advantageous
