Alongside leading major tenders, you'll manage, develop and support an experienced Estimating team, helping to improve performance, win new work and turn opportunities into successful projects.

Reporting to the Commercial Director, you'll take ownership of the estimating function while remaining hands-on with key projects and client opportunities.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading, managing and developing the Estimating team

  • Supporting the recruitment and development of a high-performing Estimating and Sales team

  • Managing incoming enquiries and ensuring opportunities are assessed effectively

  • Personally estimating and converting key enquiries while supporting the wider team to achieve their targets

  • Pricing structural steel projects accurately and competitively

  • Reviewing project requirements, drawings, specifications and technical information

  • Liaising and negotiating with subcontractors and suppliers to secure competitive prices

  • Working closely with clients, engineers, architects, designers and internal departments

  • Attending pre-tender interviews and post-tender presentations

  • Developing and maintaining strong client and consultant relationships

  • Monitoring the estimating pipeline and producing regular reports for the Leadership Team

  • Reviewing team performance and providing feedback, coaching and support

  • Planning, controlling and reporting on enquiries throughout the tender process

  • Supporting value engineering and identifying practical, commercially viable solutions

  • Reviewing Tekla models from a constructability and estimating perspective

  • Ensuring estimating processes and departmental KPIs are maintained

We're looking for an experienced Estimator or Estimating Manager who understands structural steel, construction and the commercial realities of winning work.

You'll ideally have:

  • Previous experience in a senior estimating or estimating management position

  • Strong experience pricing construction or structural steel projects

  • Experience pricing projects ranging from approximately 50 to 3,000 tonnes

  • Strong knowledge of building construction

  • Good understanding of structural and civil engineering principles

  • Experience interpreting technical drawings and specifications

  • Experience working with contractors, engineers, architects and consultants

  • Strong understanding of construction costing and commercial principles

  • Experience reviewing Tekla models for structural constructability

  • Experience with value engineering and developing practical solutions

  • Strong commercial awareness and an understanding of economic construction methods

  • Previous line management experience

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • The ability to confidently present information to both internal and external stakeholders

  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple enquiries and deadlines

  • The ability to work independently and use your own initiative

  • A high level of self-motivation and attention to detail

  • Strong Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Project skills

A BSc/HNC in Building Studies or a similar discipline would be advantageous.

MCIOB or RICS membership would also be beneficial, but is not essential.

Why Consider This Role?

This is more than simply an estimating position.

You'll have the opportunity to shape and develop an established estimating function while remaining involved in some of the business's most important projects and client relationships.
