Sales Manager - Structural Steel

Location: Huddersfield, West Yorkshire
Salary: Up to £60,000 DOE
Job Type: Permanent | Full-Time

Some businesses sell steel.

Others sell solutions, relationships and the confidence that the project will be delivered right.

This is an opportunity to join an established, employee-owned structural steel business with decades of experience delivering steelwork for some of the UK's most recognisable buildings and infrastructure projects.

With a strong reputation built around Safety, Compliance, Quality and People, the business has secured an increasing pipeline of high-profile projects and is looking for an experienced Sales Manager to help drive the next stage of growth.

The Role

Reporting to the Commercial Director, you'll play a key role in identifying new opportunities, developing client relationships and converting enquiries into profitable projects.

You'll work closely with estimating, engineering and operational teams to understand client requirements, develop commercially competitive solutions and ensure opportunities are progressed effectively from initial enquiry through to tender and award.

This is a hands-on sales role within a technical environment.

You'll be dealing with contractors, engineers, architects, consultants and clients, building long-term relationships and identifying opportunities where the business can add genuine value.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Developing and maintaining strong relationships with existing and prospective clients
  • Identifying new business opportunities across the structural steel market
  • Managing incoming enquiries and ensuring opportunities are progressed effectively
  • Working closely with the estimating team to develop competitive and commercially viable proposals
  • Supporting the conversion of enquiries into secured projects
  • Attending pre-tender interviews and post-tender presentations
  • Liaising with contractors, engineers, architects, consultants and other key stakeholders
  • Understanding client requirements and developing appropriate technical and commercial solutions
  • Identifying opportunities for value engineering
  • Supporting the development of the company's sales pipeline
  • Producing regular reports on opportunities, pipeline and sales activity
  • Representing the business at client meetings, industry events and project discussions
  • Working closely with internal departments to ensure a smooth transition from sales through to project delivery
  • Helping develop and implement strategies to grow the company's customer base and market presence

What You'll Bring

  • Proven experience in sales or business development, ideally within structural steel, construction or engineering
  • Strong understanding of the construction industry and its key stakeholders
  • Existing relationships with contractors, engineers, architects or consultants would be advantageous
  • Strong commercial awareness and understanding of construction techniques
  • Ability to understand and discuss technical drawings and specifications
  • Knowledge of structural steel would be highly advantageous
  • Experience working on projects ranging from smaller schemes through to major structural steel packages
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities
  • Commercially driven with a strong customer focus
  • Ability to identify opportunities and develop them into genuine business
  • Self-motivated, organised and able to work independently
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the confidence to communicate at all levels
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Experience of value engineering and finding practical solutions would be advantageous

Why This Role?

This isn't a role where you'll simply make calls and chase leads.

You'll be selling technical solutions on projects that matter, working alongside experienced estimating, engineering and operational teams to turn opportunities into successful projects.

You'll join an employee-owned business with a strong reputation, an experienced workforce and ambitious plans for growth.

The opportunity is there to build relationships, open new doors and play a genuine role in shaping the company's future pipeline.

What's on Offer?

  • Salary up to £60,000 DOE
  • Profit-related bonus scheme
  • 33 days' holiday, including bank holidays
  • 13 fixed holiday dates including bank holidays and Christmas shutdown
  • Contributory pension: 3% employee / 5% employer
  • Employee discounts through a Benefits Portal
  • 37.5-hour working week
  • Monday-Friday working
  • Flexi-time
