Are you an experienced Quantity Surveyor looking for your next opportunity within the structural steel or construction industry?

The successful candidate will take responsibility for the commercial and contractual management of multiple projects, working closely with clients, subcontractors and internal teams to control costs, manage risk and maximise project value.

The Role

As a Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for managing the commercial aspects of projects from contract award through to final account.

You'll play a key role in ensuring projects are commercially controlled, contractual obligations are managed effectively and financial performance is monitored throughout the project lifecycle.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Managing the commercial and contractual aspects of multiple projects
• Analysing and agreeing subcontract documentation, including terms and conditions, warranties and bonds
• Managing subcontractor accounts and ensuring commercial agreements are maintained
• Preparing and submitting variations, claims and measures
• Managing interim valuations and final accounts
• Monitoring project cost and revenue performance
• Preparing and maintaining cost and cashflow forecasts
• Identifying and mitigating commercial and contractual risks
• Providing commercial and contractual advice to internal teams and external clients
• Negotiating and agreeing subcontractor accounts
• Working closely with project teams to maximise project value
• Maintaining strong relationships with clients and subcontractors
• Attending project sites nationwide to meet with clients and subcontractors

What They're Looking For

The ideal candidate will have a strong commercial background within the construction industry, with structural steel experience being particularly advantageous.

You'll ideally have:

• A minimum of 5 years' Quantity Surveying experience within construction
• Previous experience managing the commercial aspects of multiple projects
• Strong knowledge of subcontractor management and accounts
• Experience with variations, claims, valuations and final accounts
• Good understanding of construction contracts and commercial processes
• Strong cost control and forecasting experience
• Excellent negotiation and communication skills
• The ability to identify and manage commercial risk
• Confidence liaising with clients, subcontractors and internal stakeholders
• The ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a wider project team
• Willingness to travel to sites nationwide when required

Previous experience within structural steel would be highly advantageous but is not essential.

The Projects

You'll be working within an established structural steel business delivering projects across the UK and Europe.

The company has the capability to deliver everything from straightforward building frames through to technically complex structural steel projects, providing exposure to a varied project portfolio.

This makes the role particularly suited to a QS who enjoys working across different projects and taking genuine ownership of the commercial function.

Commercial Responsibility

This is a role where you'll have genuine involvement in the financial and contractual performance of projects.

From reviewing subcontract agreements and managing variations through to forecasting costs, agreeing accounts and supporting final commercial outcomes, you'll be involved throughout the project lifecycle.

You'll also have regular contact with clients and subcontractors, including nationwide site visits, making this a varied role rather than one that is entirely office-based.

Qualifications & Experience

A relevant HND or degree-level qualification would be advantageous.

Professional membership of RICS would also be beneficial, although relevant commercial experience will be the key consideration.
