Quantity Surveyor & Estimator - Structural Steel

Salary: €40,000 - €60,000, depending on experience

Are you a Quantity Surveyor with structural steel experience who also has a strong estimating background?

This is an opportunity to join a specialist structural steel contractor and work across a number of large, high-profile projects nationwide, taking responsibility for both the estimating and commercial side of projects from initial tender through to final account.

The Role

This is a varied position combining estimating, quantity surveying and commercial management.

You'll be involved from the early tender stage, preparing measurements and pricing, through to contract cost control, valuations, variations, subcontractor management and final accounts.

You'll work closely with clients, architects, consulting engineers, site teams, planners and suppliers, making sure projects remain commercially controlled while identifying opportunities to improve value and protect margins.

What You'll Be Doing

• Prepare tender documentation, measurements and estimates.
• Manage tender returns and complete tender checklists.
• Take responsibility for cost control across contracts.
• Prepare and submit monthly valuations.
• Agree and finalise final accounts.
• Produce weekly and monthly cost-value reports for management.
• Monitor project cash flow and contract performance.
• Carry out value engineering and value management.
• Review and negotiate supplier and subcontractor quotations.
• Establish best value and identify commercial opportunities.
• Manage the commercial impact of variations and disruption.
• Prepare subcontract documentation, Letters of Award and H&S packs.
• Manage subcontractor liabilities and monthly accruals.
• Review and value labour allocation and plant records.
• Provide cost allowances to Site Agents and monitor project budgets.
• Issue subcontract payment notifications.
• Ensure subcontractor pre-appointment requirements are completed.
• Obtain and maintain relevant subcontractor insurance and UTR information.
• Identify trends, gains, losses and potential problem areas within projects.
• Attend design team, site safety, cost review and project meetings.
• Work closely with Site Managers, Supervisors, Planners and Operations.
• Liaise with clients, architects, consulting engineers and other project stakeholders.

About You

We're looking for someone who understands both the commercial and technical side of structural steel projects.

You'll ideally have:

• HNC/HND or Degree in Quantity Surveying, Estimating or a related discipline.
• 5+ years' experience working for a Main Contractor.
• At least 3 years' Quantity Surveying experience.
• At least 3 years' estimating experience.
• At least 3 years' experience working on structural steel contracts.
• Experience working across commercial contracts.
• Ideally, previous experience managing structural steel projects from a commercial perspective.
• Strong Microsoft Office 365 skills.
• Excellent organisation and prioritisation skills.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Good commercial awareness and numerical ability.
• The confidence to work independently and take initiative.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• A flexible and adaptable approach.
