The steel gets built on site.
But the commercial success of a project is decided long before the final piece is installed.
This is an opportunity to join an established structural steel specialist with more than 75 years of industry experience, delivering projects ranging from straightforward building frames through to complex structures across the UK and Europe.
As Quantity Surveyor, you'll take ownership of the commercial and contractual management of multiple projects, working closely with clients, subcontractors and internal teams to control costs, manage risk and maximise value.
It's a role where commercial judgement matters.

You'll be responsible for the full commercial management of projects, ensuring contractual obligations are understood, costs are controlled and financial performance remains on track throughout the project lifecycle.
Working across projects nationwide, you'll liaise directly with clients and subcontractors, providing commercial and contractual advice and ensuring accounts, variations, valuations and final accounts are managed effectively.
You'll be part of a wider project team, but you'll have genuine responsibility for protecting the commercial position of each project.

- Managing all commercial aspects of structural steel projects
- Reviewing and agreeing subcontract documentation, including terms and conditions, warranties and bonds
- Preparing and submitting variations, claims and measures
- Managing interim valuations and final accounts
- Monitoring project cost and revenue performance
- Preparing cost and cashflow forecasts
- Providing commercial and contractual advice to internal teams and external clients
- Negotiating and agreeing subcontractor accounts
- Identifying and mitigating commercial risks
- Supporting the project team in maximising value and protecting margins
- Attending sites nationwide to liaise with clients and subcontractors
- Maintaining strong commercial relationships throughout the project lifecycle
What You'll Bring
- Minimum 5 years' experience within construction
- Experience within structural steel would be advantageous but is not essential
- Strong understanding of construction contracts and commercial management
- Experience managing subcontractor accounts
- Knowledge of variations, claims, valuations and final accounts
- Strong commercial awareness and attention to detail
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills
- The ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities
- Relevant academic qualifications such as an HND or degree would be advantageous
- RICS membership or working towards professional membership would be desirable
Why This Role?
You'll be joining a business with a long-standing reputation in the structural steel industry and the capability to deliver significant projects across the UK and Europe.
You'll have exposure to a varied project portfolio and work alongside experienced teams across estimating, engineering, fabrication and construction.
Most importantly, you'll have the opportunity to take real ownership of the commercial performance of your projects - from the initial subcontract documentation through to final account.
