Quantity Surveyor - Structural Steel

The Company

This established construction and structural steel business delivers projects across a range of sectors, with a growing portfolio that also includes work within the rail industry.

As the business continues to develop, they are looking for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join the commercial team and play an important role in supporting the financial and commercial delivery of projects.

This is a varied position, working closely with Contract Managers, Project Managers, clients and internal teams across both structural steel and rail-related contracts.

The Role

You will support the Contract and Project Management teams across the commercial and financial lifecycle of projects, helping to maintain cost control, identify risks and ensure contractual requirements are met.

You will:

  • Provide Quantity Surveying support to Contract and Project Managers.
  • Assist with contract programmes, applications and key commercial deadlines.
  • Manage valuations and support the pricing and administration of variations.
  • Maintain accurate financial reports and cost value reconciliations.
  • Monitor job costs against original quoted figures and investigate any discrepancies.
  • Support procurement activities and liaise with the purchasing team.
  • Assist with applications, final accounts and contract reviews.
  • Work closely with clients, internal departments and professional teams.
  • Attend internal and external meetings to support the commercial requirements of projects.
  • Develop your knowledge and understanding of relevant contract conditions, including NEC and JCT.

What They're Looking For

You should have:

  • Previous experience in construction and structural steel Quantity Surveying.
  • A relevant Quantity Surveying qualification.
  • Knowledge and understanding of NEC and JCT contracts.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organisational and time management abilities.
  • A methodical and accurate approach to financial and commercial information.
  • A good understanding of wider construction processes.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel, Word and Microsoft Project.
  • A full UK driving licence.

Experience supporting rail-related contracts would be advantageous, as would holding a CSCS card.
