Quality Manager / Quality Engineer - Structural Steel

Location: London
Rate: £50 per hour - all hours paid
Contract: Approximately 3 months
Start Date: 7 September 2026
Working Pattern: 11-day fortnight
Accommodation: Hotel accommodation provided
Sector: Structural Steel / Steel Erection

The Company

The steel going up on this project is part of a major piece of London's infrastructure, with structural steel installation taking place across a large-scale construction environment.

With the work already underway, quality cannot be left until the end of the job. Every connection, measurement, piece of steel and inspection record needs to stand up to scrutiny.

That is where you come in.

This is a site-based contract for a Quality Manager / Quality Engineer who knows structural steel from the inspection side and is comfortable making sure the work being erected is right first time - and properly documented when it is handed over.

The Role

You will be the quality presence on site, working closely with construction, erection, surveying and client teams to keep the steelwork moving while maintaining the required standards.

You will:

  • Inspect structural steel erection against approved drawings, specifications, ITPs and quality requirements.
  • Control QCPs, ITPs, inspection notifications, witness points and hold points throughout the works.
  • Verify steelwork alignment, levels, plumbness, dimensional tolerances and survey information.
  • Inspect bolted connections, including preloaded and non-preloaded connections, with accurate records maintained.
  • Manage NCRs, observations, corrective actions and quality issues through to close-out.
  • Build the quality trail behind the steelwork, including traceability records, inspection documentation and final handover dossiers.

You will also work with Asite and Field View, ensuring inspection reports, check sheets and quality registers remain up to date as the project progresses.

The Candidate

This role is aimed at someone who has already spent time around structural steel erection and understands what good quality looks like on site.

You will need:

  • CSWIP 3.1 Welding Inspector
  • HNC/HND or equivalent in Engineering, Construction, Mechanical or Structural Engineering
  • CSNSG Card
  • Minimum 3 years' structural steel inspection / quality assurance experience
  • Proven experience with structural steel erection and bolting inspection
  • Experience with dimensional control and survey requirements
  • Working knowledge of Asite and Field View
  • A solid understanding of structural steel quality documentation and requirements

If you have the inspection experience but your background is more heavily weighted towards either fabrication or erection, it is still worth having a conversation.

The Package

  • £50 per hour - all hours paid
  • Approximately 3-month contract
  • Hotel accommodation provided
  • 11-day fortnight
  • Start date: 7 September 2026
  • Week 1: Monday-Friday 06:45-18:45, Saturday-Sunday 06:45-16:15
  • Week 2: Monday-Wednesday 06:45-18:45, Thursday finish at 14:15
  • CIS/LTD applicants welcome, subject to £10m Public Liability Insurance being in place before the service agreement is issued

Week commencing 7 September 2026 is Week 1.
