Project Manager - Structural Steel & Stairs
Location: Leeds
Salary: Competitive, depending on experience
Job Type: Permanent, Full Time
Some construction projects are about far more than putting a frame together.
We're looking for an experienced Project Manager to join a specialist business delivering highly engineered structural steelwork, staircases and balustrade systems across projects throughout the UK.
From one-off installations through to complex multi-site projects, you'll take ownership of your allocated projects and make sure they are delivered safely, efficiently, commercially and to the standard expected by the client.
This is a hands-on project management role where you'll work closely with teams across design, production, commercial and site delivery.
The Role
You'll take responsibility for your projects from contract management through to completion on site.
Your responsibilities will include:
Taking ownership of the day-to-day project and contract management of your allocated projects.
Managing site teams and works to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to programme.
Coordinating Site Supervisors, Project Surveyors, Commercial, Drawing Office and Production teams throughout the project lifecycle.
Managing project programmes and ensuring key milestones are achieved.
Controlling contractual documentation, orders, bonds and warranties.
Monitoring project progress and identifying potential issues before they affect delivery.
Building strong working relationships with clients, subcontractors, suppliers and internal teams.
Attending client and site meetings across the UK.
Carrying out regular site visits and supporting the teams responsible for installation.
Managing multiple projects and priorities while maintaining a clear focus on programme, quality, safety and commercial performance.
What We're Looking For
You'll already have experience working in a Project Management role within construction and be comfortable taking ownership of projects, people and programmes.
We're looking for someone with:
Previous experience in a similar Project Manager position.
Construction experience is essential.
Experience managing projects from planning through to delivery.
Strong understanding of project programmes, contracts and site delivery.
CSCS card.
SMSTS or SSSTS.
Full UK driving licence.
Strong communication and negotiation skills.
Excellent organisational and time-management abilities.
The confidence to manage multiple priorities and work to tight deadlines.
A practical approach to problem-solving and project delivery.
Willingness to travel throughout the UK and stay away from home up to four nights per week.
Experience within structural steel, stairs, balustrades, architectural metalwork or another specialist construction environment would be particularly advantageous.
Why Consider This Role?
This isn't a Project Manager position where you'll only be responsible for one small part of the process.
You'll have involvement across the full project and contract management lifecycle, working with the teams responsible for design, fabrication, commercial management and installation.
You'll also get exposure to a varied range of projects, from individual specialist applications through to larger multi-site installations across the UK.
What You Can Expect
Specialist structural steel, staircase and balustrade projects.
UK-wide project exposure with plenty of variety.
Close involvement with site, commercial, production and drawing office teams.
Responsibility for your own allocated projects.
Company pension scheme.
Company sick pay scheme.
Health plan.
Cycle-to-work scheme.
Share-save scheme.
Option to purchase additional annual leave.
Permanent position with an established specialist business.
The Person We're Looking For
You might currently be working as a Project Manager, Contracts Manager, Senior Project Manager or Construction Project Manager and be looking for a role where you can take genuine ownership of projects.
You'll be someone who enjoys being involved in the detail, communicating with different teams and solving problems before they become delays.
If you have a strong construction background, enjoy managing projects from planning through to installation and don't mind travelling across the UK, this could be a great opportunity.
