Production Manager
Structural steel and bridge members leave the floor only when fabrication, quality, and schedule are under control. As Production Manager, you own the shop that turns engineered drawings into infrastructure owners can trust. Your leadership decides whether crews hit tonnage, safety, and delivery commitments without giving up the workmanship that keeps customers coming back.
Performance Objectives
- Run daily and weekly production so scheduled structural and bridge work ships on the committed date, with throughput measured against plan.
- Hold recordable incidents at or below plant targets by enforcing safe practices, stop-work authority, and timely corrective action.
- Cut rework and nonconformances so first-pass quality holds on complex members, welds, and fit-up.
- Staff, train, and coach supervisors and craft teams so labor hours per ton stay inside budget while skills deepen.
- Align detailing, engineering support, materials, and project management so bottlenecks are cleared before they miss a milestone.
- Improve layout, sequencing, and standard work so capacity rises without uncontrolled overtime.
- Report safety, quality, and delivery results leadership can act on, and close the gaps those reports reveal.
Environment & Resources
You lead production in a multi-plant structural steel and bridge fabrication operation and report to plant or operations leadership. You direct supervisors, welders, fitters, and support trades, and work daily with project management, detailing, quality, and maintenance. You control shop scheduling, labor assignment, and process changes within approved budgets, using the plant's planning, nesting, and quality systems plus established safety and welding procedures.
Essential Qualifications
- A proven record running structural steel or heavy fabrication, including bridge or large-member work.
- Hands-on command of welding, fit-up, and fabrication sequencing, with discipline around applicable codes and welding procedures.
- Measured results improving safety, on-time delivery, and labor productivity on a production floor.
- Ability to build a weekly plan from drawings, loads, and capacity, then hold the floor to it.
- Clear communication with craft crews, project managers, and customers when schedule or quality is at risk.
Why This Role
- The work becomes bridges and critical structures, not commodity parts.
- A fabrication culture built on safety, quality, and customer satisfaction, with continuous improvement shared by crews, suppliers, and owners.
- Real authority over how the floor runs, scored on safety, quality, and delivery-not activity.
- High annual tonnage across multiple plants, with room to raise the standard of flow and craft.
If you can put steel out the door safely, on spec, and on time, apply. Bring the results you have already delivered.
