We are currently recruiting for an experienced Payroll Team Leader on behalf of London Borough of Lambeth to provide long-term sickness cover within their Finance and Governance Directorate.
This is an excellent opportunity to lead a high-performing payroll team and contribute to the successful delivery of a large, complex payroll function covering corporate and school-based staff.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and manage a team of 12 payroll professionals.
Oversee payroll operations for approximately:
2,920 school staff
3,200 corporate staff
200 external school staff
Ensure accurate and timely payroll processing in accordance with legislation, council policy, and best practices using the Oracle payroll system.
Provide specialist advice on payroll administration, regulations, and internal policies.
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including software providers, to support system functionality and enhancements.
Drive continuous improvement in payroll systems, processes, and team performance.
Maintain strong relationships with employers to ensure high levels of service in line with payroll SLAs and contracts.
Person Specification:
Extensive experience managing large-scale payroll operations.
Strong knowledge of payroll legislation and statutory requirements.
Experience with Oracle or similar enterprise payroll systems.
Proven ability to manage and develop staff in a team environment.
Excellent organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Contract Details:
Rate: £35 per hour
Duration: 24 August 2025 to 30 November 2025
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00am - 5:00pm
Location: Lambeth Town Hall (with hybrid working arrangements)
