About the Role
We're looking for a skilled and reliable Joiner to join our Community Services team.
 You'll play a key role in maintaining and improving Council-owned properties - carrying out repairs, installations, and general joinery work to a high standard, ensuring our residents receive the very best service.
This is a front-line, customer-facing role, ideal for someone who takes pride in their craft and enjoys making a difference in local communities.
The Role:
- Carry out all aspects of joinery repairs and maintenance on Council-owned properties, both independently and as part of a team.
 - Take responsibility for ordering, collecting, and safely storing materials and equipment.
 - Respond to emergencies, including property access for emergency services and making safe any damage.
 - Report any defects, damage, or safety issues immediately to your supervisor.
 - Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety legislation and Council policies at all times.
 - Maintain and clean all allocated tools, vehicles, PPE, and equipment.
 - Be open to using new tools or technology that improve efficiency and service delivery.
 - Occasionally carry out specialist work, such as asbestos removal, following safe working practices.
 - Support the training of apprentices as required.
 
The Candidate:
Essential qualifications and experience:
- Apprentice-trained and time-served, with a City & Guilds or NVQ Level 3 in Joinery.
 - Experience in repairs, maintenance, or contracting within the construction or housing sector.
 - Competent in 1st and 2nd fix joinery and capable of measuring, cutting, and fitting glass.
 - Skilled in using portable power tools and working safely from ladders and heights (up to 12m).
 - Strong knowledge of Health & Safety in the construction industry.
 - Excellent customer care and communication skills.
 - Ability to complete documentation such as work orders and timesheets accurately.
 - Full UK Driving Licence.
 
Desirable:
- Experience in supervising or mentoring apprentices.
 - Flexibility to work occasional overtime to complete urgent work.
