HSE Manager - Structural Steelwork & Construction

Location: Dublin
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time

Lead a safety culture that makes a real difference

Are you an experienced Health, Safety and Environmental professional with a background in structural steelwork, heavy fabrication or construction?

This is an opportunity to take ownership of HSE performance across workshop operations and live construction sites, ensuring safety, environmental responsibility and compliance are embedded into everyday working practices.

Working closely with senior leadership, operational teams and site personnel, you'll have the authority to challenge unsafe practices, strengthen existing systems and influence how work is planned and delivered. The focus is on practical improvements that protect people, reduce risk and support high-quality project delivery.

The Role

As HSE Manager, you'll lead the development and implementation of health, safety and environmental standards across fabrication, erection and associated construction activities.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and implementing practical HSE strategies that improve performance across workshop and site operations.

  • Monitoring incident trends, investigating accidents and near misses, and ensuring root causes are addressed.

  • Maintaining compliance with relevant health, safety and environmental legislation and industry requirements.

  • Auditing high-risk activities, including lifting operations, working at height, hot work and permit-to-work systems.

  • Working with supervisors and operational teams to improve risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work.

  • Delivering inductions, toolbox talks and training to strengthen hazard awareness and safe working behaviours.

  • Conducting regular inspections across fabrication facilities and live construction sites.

  • Challenging unsafe practices and exercising the authority to stop work where necessary.

  • Monitoring environmental performance, including waste management, noise, coatings and potential pollution risks.

  • Working with project and quality teams to ensure safety documentation and inspection procedures are practical and effective.

  • Reporting HSE performance, outstanding actions and emerging risks to senior management.

  • Supporting a positive safety culture through coaching, engagement and continuous improvement.

About You

You'll be a confident and hands-on HSE professional who can balance strong technical knowledge with the ability to influence people at every level of an organisation.

You'll understand the practical risks associated with steel fabrication and installation, and you'll be comfortable spending time on the shop floor and on site rather than managing safety solely through paperwork.

To be considered, you'll need:

  • Previous experience leading HSE within structural steelwork, heavy fabrication, construction or a closely related environment.

  • A NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent professional qualification.

  • A strong working knowledge of relevant health, safety and environmental legislation.

  • Practical experience managing investigations, risk assessments, audits and permit systems.

  • A sound understanding of lifting operations, work at height, hot work and workshop hazards.

  • The ability to identify underlying causes and implement improvements that deliver measurable results.

  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the confidence to challenge unsafe decisions constructively.

  • A proactive approach to coaching supervisors, engaging site teams and improving safety behaviours.

  • The flexibility to work across both workshop operations and live construction sites.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

  • Real operational influence: Shape safety standards across the full project lifecycle, from fabrication through to installation.

  • Hands-on leadership: Work directly with the people carrying out the work and help develop practical, effective safety systems.

  • Visible impact: Improve incident prevention, compliance, environmental performance and workforce engagement.

  • Senior-level responsibility: Work closely with company leadership and operational managers to influence decision-making.

  • Continuous improvement: Develop existing procedures and strengthen the organisation's approach to health, safety and environmental management.

Ready to Make an Impact?

If you're an experienced HSE Manager who can combine technical expertise with a practical, people-focused approach, this is an opportunity to make a lasting difference to how structural steelwork projects are delivered.
