Reviews Officer - Housing & Homelessness
Our client is seeking a highly skilled Reviews Officer to join their Homelessness Prevention and Advice Service. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced housing professional to play a key role in delivering a high-quality statutory review service.
The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out statutory homelessness reviews, ensuring decisions are made in line with relevant legislation including the Housing Act 1996 (as amended), the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017, the Localism Act 2011, and the Equality Act 2010. You will use your sound judgement, comprehensive legal knowledge, and analytical skills to ensure all outcomes are fair, lawful, and transparent.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct statutory reviews of housing and homelessness decisions.
Draft high-quality, legally robust decision letters.
Assess the merits of individual cases, including judicial review threats and interim accommodation requests.
Provide training and guidance to case officers, helping to improve service delivery.
Represent the organisation at County Court and High Court proceedings, as required.
Maintain expert knowledge of housing law, case law, and codes of guidance.
Ensure statutory timescales are met and records are accurately maintained.
Engage professionally with applicants, solicitors, and stakeholders, always delivering excellent customer service.
Key Requirements:
Strong understanding of housing and homelessness legislation, case law, and guidance.
Proven experience of writing complex statutory decision letters.
Background in investigations, case assessment, and decision-making within homelessness services.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure, managing competing demands and tight deadlines.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to coach and develop colleagues.
