Housing Officer - Temporary Assignment
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Housing Officer to join a busy Housing Services team on a temporary basis. This post offers the opportunity to deliver an exceptional neighbourhood and tenancy management service, working directly with residents to ensure safe, well-maintained communities and sustained tenancies.
Assignment Details
Location: 2-3 days per week on-site (Essex) with flexibility for remote work
Duration: 3-month assignment with potential extension
Hours: 37 hours per week
Role Overview
The Housing Officer will oversee a defined property patch of approximately 400 homes, taking responsibility for tenancy management, income recovery, estate inspections, and customer engagement. The role requires a proactive approach, ensuring that services remain resident-focused, responsive, and aligned with the highest standards of housing management.
You will act as the primary point of contact for tenants and leaseholders, delivering effective estate management and making a tangible difference to residents' quality of life.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct routine estate inspections, tenancy audits, and home visits to maintain high standards across the housing stock.
Lead on rent arrears recovery, including early intervention, direct communication with tenants, and court-related processes when necessary.
Address tenancy breaches and anti-social behaviour through swift, proportionate action supported by robust case management plans.
Support tenancy sustainment through welfare guidance, pre-tenancy engagement, and sign-ups for new residents.
Liaise with external partners such as police, social care, and voluntary agencies to ensure holistic support for residents.
Manage mutual exchange applications, ensuring accuracy and compliance with legislative requirements.
Report repairs and work closely with maintenance teams to ensure timely completion of works.
Maintain accurate casework records, statistics, and reports using Microsoft Office and housing management systems.
Person Requirements
Essential
Experience working within social housing, including income recovery and arrears management.
Competence in IT systems including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Strong communication skills with the ability to engage empathetically with residents.
Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
Full UK driving licence and willingness to conduct home visits, including occasional work outside standard hours.
Desirable
Knowledge of housing management systems (e.g., Orchard).
Qualification in Housing Management.
Strong organisational skills and experience handling complex caseloads.
