The Company
Some steel projects are straightforward.
Others involve complex structures, demanding programmes and margins that can quickly disappear if the estimate is wrong.
This is an opportunity to join an established structural steel contractor with a strong project pipeline, where the estimating team plays a key role in deciding which projects the business takes on and, ultimately, whether they make money from them.
They are looking for an experienced Steelwork Estimator who understands the numbers, the drawings and the realities of fabrication and erection.
The Role
You will be responsible for putting together accurate, commercially sound estimates for structural steel projects, working closely with the wider commercial and project teams.
You will:
- Prepare competitive estimates and tenders for structural steel projects.
- Analyse drawings, specifications and tender information to establish project requirements.
- Build accurate costs covering materials, fabrication, labour, transport, erection and associated works.
- Obtain and assess supplier and subcontractor quotations.
- Identify risks, exclusions and opportunities before a tender is submitted.
- Work with clients, suppliers and internal teams to ensure the final price reflects what the project actually requires.
The Candidate
They are looking for someone who already understands structural steel estimating rather than a general construction estimator looking to make the move.
Ideally, you will have:
- Proven experience estimating structural steelwork projects.
- Strong understanding of fabrication, materials and steelwork erection.
- Experience pricing from drawings, specifications and tender documentation.
- Ability to build accurate material, labour and subcontract costs.
- Good commercial awareness and an understanding of project margins.
- Confidence dealing with suppliers, subcontractors and clients.
- Ideally based in London or within commuting distance.
Remote working can be considered for the right person, particularly where you have a strong track record within structural steel estimating.
