Are you an experienced Estimator with a background in structural steelwork and a strong commercial mindset?

Do you have the technical understanding to interpret structural drawings, accurately price fabricated and erected steelwork, and identify opportunities to secure profitable projects?

We're working with a business in the structural steelwork sector looking to strengthen its estimating team. This is an opportunity to play a key role in the tender process, combining technical knowledge, cost analysis and commercial judgement to help secure new projects and support continued business growth.

You'll work closely with clients, suppliers and internal teams to develop competitive, well-informed tenders, ensuring every estimate reflects the project requirements, potential risks and costs involved.

What You'll Be Doing

As Structural Steel Estimator, you'll manage tender enquiries from initial review through to submission, ensuring estimates are accurate, commercially competitive and delivered within agreed deadlines.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Reviewing incoming enquiries and assessing tender requirements.

• Analysing structural drawings, specifications and scopes of work to establish project requirements.

• Preparing detailed estimates, quotations and tender submissions for structural steelwork projects.

• Calculating steelwork quantities and assessing the materials, fabrication, labour and installation costs involved.

• Obtaining and evaluating quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.

• Identifying potential risks, exclusions, assumptions and additional costs within tender documentation.

• Liaising with clients and contractors to clarify technical and commercial requirements.

• Working collaboratively with engineering, procurement, project management and commercial teams to ensure accurate pricing.

• Managing multiple tender opportunities simultaneously while meeting strict submission deadlines.

• Maintaining accurate estimating records and supporting post-tender reviews.

• Contributing to the development of competitive pricing strategies that support profitable project wins.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for a detail-oriented and commercially aware Estimator who understands the practicalities of structural steelwork and can confidently translate technical information into accurate project costs.

Ideally, you'll have:

• Previous estimating experience within structural steelwork.

• Experience pricing structural steel fabrication and erection projects.

• The ability to read and interpret structural drawings, technical specifications and scopes of work.

• A strong understanding of steelwork quantities, fabrication processes and installation requirements.

• Experience managing tenders from initial enquiry through to final submission.

• Sound commercial awareness and an understanding of project costs and profitability.

• The ability to identify potential risks, cost implications and opportunities within tender documentation.

• Experience obtaining supplier and subcontractor quotations and liaising with clients.

• Strong numerical, analytical and organisational skills.

• Excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
