Estimator - Structural Steel

A good estimate is where a successful project starts.
This is an opportunity for a commercially aware Estimator to join an established structural steelwork specialist, working on a varied range of projects from straightforward building frames through to more complex structural steelwork.
You'll be responsible for taking enquiries from initial review through to detailed tender, assessing drawings and specifications, identifying commercially viable opportunities and working closely with clients and internal teams to make sure projects are priced accurately and competitively.
The Role
As an Estimator, you'll play an important role in the front end of the business, helping to identify the right opportunities and ensuring tenders are prepared accurately and efficiently.
Your responsibilities will include:
Managing incoming enquiries and reviewing opportunities for commercial viability
Working from detailed drawings, specifications and project information
Preparing accurate and detailed estimates for clients
Reviewing quantities, materials, labour and other project requirements
Supporting the preparation and submission of tenders
Liaising with clients throughout the estimating and tender process
Working closely with Design, Contracts, Production and other internal departments
Building and maintaining strong relationships with existing clients
Supporting the development of new client relationships and business opportunities
Managing multiple enquiries and tenders while working to tight deadlines
Ensuring estimates are commercially competitive while remaining achievable
Providing clear and accurate information to support successful project delivery
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who understands the estimating process and can confidently work through technical drawings and specifications.
You'll ideally have:
Previous experience in an estimating role
Experience within structural steel, steel fabrication, construction or a related industry
A practical understanding of the estimating and tendering process
The ability to interpret detailed technical drawings and specifications
Strong commercial awareness
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
Strong communication and relationship-building skills
The ability to manage a varied workload and multiple deadlines
Good organisational and time-management skills
A relevant technical or engineering qualification would be advantageous
Structural steel experience is desirable, but candidates from closely related engineering or construction environments may also be considered.
