The Opportunity

A growing structural steel organization is looking for an experienced Structural Steel Estimator to join its team in North Texas.

This role is responsible for developing accurate project estimates based on customer-provided drawings, specifications, and project requirements. You'll perform detailed takeoffs, develop material and labor pricing, obtain vendor quotes, and work closely with General Contractors and the estimating team to build complete and competitive proposals.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience in commercial and/or industrial structural steel, excellent drawing-reading skills, and the ability to produce accurate estimates from project documents.

What You'll Do

  • Perform full lump-sum takeoffs for material, labor, vendor, and equipment costs.
  • Review structural and architectural drawings and project specifications to identify the complete project scope.
  • Develop detailed pricing using estimating spreadsheets and project documentation.
  • Obtain vendor pricing for materials and subcontracted scope.
  • Communicate with General Contractors regarding project questions, requirements, and schedules.
  • Prepare detailed scopes of work and takeoffs for proposal submission.
  • Develop lists of inclusions, exclusions, and qualifications for customer proposals.
  • Work closely with the Estimating Manager to maintain the estimating department schedule.
  • Track previous bids and communicate with General Contractors regarding bid status and awards.
  • Communicate project progress and updates to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Prepare and distribute project information to Project Managers, internal support teams, and customers.

What We're Looking For

  • 5+ years of experience in the industrial/commercial steel fabrication industry.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret structural and architectural drawings.
  • Ability to identify changes and accurately capture project scope.
  • Strong understanding of standard construction practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of AISC practices, rules, and regulations relating to steel construction and design.
  • Excellent mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Experience with Bluebeam and On-Screen Takeoff.
  • High school diploma required.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred.
