Estimating Manager - Structural Steel

Location: London / Remote
Job Type: Permanent | Full-Time
Sector: Structural Steel / Construction

The Company

Winning the right work starts long before the first piece of steel is fabricated.

This is an opportunity to take ownership of an established structural steel estimating function, working with a contractor that has a strong pipeline of projects and ambitious plans for continued growth.

They are looking for an Estimating Manager who can do more than review tenders. Someone who understands structural steel commercially, knows what makes a project stack up, and can lead an estimating function while remaining close to the numbers.

The Role

You will take the lead on the estimating function, helping shape the tenders the business pursues and ensuring projects are priced accurately and commercially.

You will:

  • Lead the estimating function and manage the flow of tenders from enquiry through to submission.
  • Review drawings, specifications and tender information to identify scope, risk and opportunities.
  • Oversee accurate pricing across materials, fabrication, labour, transport, erection and associated works.
  • Challenge estimates and assumptions to ensure projects are commercially viable before submission.
  • Develop relationships with clients, suppliers and subcontractors to strengthen the tendering process.
  • Work closely with senior management and the project team on major bids, handovers and commercial strategy.

The Candidate

This is aimed at an experienced estimator who is ready to take ownership of an estimating department - or someone already operating at Estimating Manager level.

You will ideally have:

  • Strong experience estimating structural steelwork projects.
  • Previous experience leading, mentoring or managing estimators.
  • A detailed understanding of structural steel fabrication and erection.
  • Experience pricing from drawings, specifications and tender documentation.
  • Strong commercial awareness, including margins, risks and project viability.
  • Confidence reviewing and challenging estimates before they reach submission.
  • The ability to deal directly with clients, suppliers, subcontractors and senior management.
  • Ideally based in London or within commuting distance.

Remote working can be considered for the right person, particularly where you have the structural steel estimating experience and leadership background to operate independently.

Why This Opportunity Stands Out

  • Senior position with genuine ownership of the estimating function.
  • Opportunity to influence which projects the business takes on.
  • Ability to shape and develop the estimating team.
  • Exposure to a varied structural steel project pipeline.
  • Flexible working, with remote considered for the right person.
  • Opportunity to work closely with senior management rather than simply passing tenders up the chain.
  • Long-term opportunity within an established structural steel contractor.
