Senior Health & Safety Advisor - Structural Steel

Location: Dublin, Ireland
Salary: Competitive, depending on experience
Job Type: Permanent | Full-time | Site-based

The Company

Safety isn't a box to tick when you're delivering major structural steel projects. It needs to be built into every stage of the operation.

This established structural steel business delivers complex projects across Ireland and works with major clients, contractors and subcontractors across demanding construction environments.

With a growing project portfolio, they are now looking for a Senior Health & Safety Advisor to provide experienced leadership across site operations and help drive safety standards across multiple projects.

The Role

Reporting to the Health & Safety Manager, you will take senior responsibility for the day-to-day health, safety and environmental performance of site operations.

You will:

  • Lead daily site safety activities, including safety coordination meetings, toolbox talks and briefings.
  • Manage Health & Safety activities for both company employees and subcontractors.
  • Review risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work, ensuring they are properly implemented on site.
  • Carry out regular inspections, audits and safety walks alongside clients and site management.
  • Mentor Health & Safety Officers and site safety representatives while providing leadership to site teams.
  • Control plant and equipment compliance, ensuring statutory certifications and inspection records are current.
  • Investigate incidents, near misses and unsafe behaviours, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
  • Maintain accurate safety documentation and ensure sites remain fully prepared for audits.
  • Monitor safety performance and produce regular reports and KPI information for management.
  • Keep up to date with changes in Irish Health & Safety legislation and assess their impact on the business.
  • Work closely with head office, project teams, clients and subcontractors to maintain consistent safety standards.

Importantly, you will have the authority to stop work where unsafe conditions or behaviours are identified and escalate significant risks directly to senior management.

What They're Looking For

You should have:

  • A degree or equivalent qualification in Occupational Health & Safety.
  • At least 5 years' experience in a senior Health & Safety or EHS position.
  • Strong knowledge of Irish Health & Safety legislation and construction standards.
  • Experience carrying out site inspections, audits and incident investigations.
  • Proven experience managing subcontractor safety compliance within construction environments.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, with the confidence to challenge unsafe practices when necessary.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and safety reporting systems.
  • Manual Handling, Abrasive Wheels or similar training qualifications would be advantageous.
  • Experience within structural steel, fabrication or manufacturing would be highly beneficial.

Why This Role?

This is a senior site-based position where Health & Safety has genuine authority and influence.

You'll be working closely with site management, project teams, clients and subcontractors, with the autonomy to challenge poor standards and make decisions that directly improve safety performance.

The role offers the opportunity to take ownership of safety across major structural steel projects while developing your career within an established and growing organisation.

Key Areas of Responsibility

Success in the role will be measured through:

  • Consistent compliance with legislation, client requirements and company standards.
  • Reduction in incidents, near misses and unsafe behaviours.
  • High-quality site documentation and strong audit readiness.
  • Positive engagement with site management and the workforce.
  • Accurate and timely safety reporting and KPI management.
