Dispatcher / Trucking Supervisor - Structural Steel

🎯 The Opportunity
An established and growing structural steel business is looking for an experienced Dispatch & Trucking Lead to take ownership of its day-to-day transportation and dispatch operation.
This is a hands-on operational role where you will bring structure, visibility and accountability to the movement of fabricated materials from the shop to active project sites.
With multiple loads, trailers, company drivers and external trucking partners to coordinate, the business needs someone who can keep a clear view of what is loaded, where equipment is, which deliveries take priority and when trailers need to return.
You'll have the opportunity to build and improve the process rather than simply maintain an established system.
🚀 What You'll Be Doing
- Build and maintain daily and forward-looking schedules for trucks, trailers and loads.
- Track trailer locations, loading status, availability and expected return dates.
- Coordinate deliveries around fabrication readiness and project/site requirements.
- Schedule and communicate with company drivers and external trucking subcontractors.
- Make real-time decisions when priorities, production schedules or site requirements change.
- Communicate delays and competing priorities clearly to the shop, drivers and project teams.
- Establish clear ownership and practical reporting across the dispatch operation.
- Improve visibility over fleet utilisation, deliveries and equipment availability.
- Help develop a more consistent and reliable dispatch process as the business continues to grow.
- Support the future evaluation of a suitable transportation management or fleet system once the immediate processes are established.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced dispatch, trucking, logistics or transportation professional who is comfortable operating in a fast-moving environment where priorities can change quickly.
You don't need to come exclusively from structural steel. Relevant experience could include:
- Structural steel transportation
- Heavy haulage
- Precast
- Construction materials
- Industrial manufacturing
- Complex dispatch or fleet operations
You'll be someone who can confidently coordinate multiple moving parts, challenge unreliable information when necessary and make practical decisions under pressure.
Strong candidates will be able to demonstrate experience with:
- Scheduling multiple trucks, trailers and drivers.
- Coordinating direct employees and subcontracted hauliers.
- Deliveries from manufacturing/fabrication facilities to active construction or project sites.
- Tracking equipment, loads and delivery status.
- Managing changes caused by production delays or shifting site requirements.
- Resolving conflicting priorities between operations, project teams and drivers.
- Building or improving dispatch processes.
- Using dispatch, ERP, transportation, spreadsheet or similar scheduling systems.

- Approximately $30/hour
- Approximately $62,400 annualised at 40 hours per week, before overtime.
