Deputy Works Manager - Structural Steel Fabrication

Location: West Yorkshire
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time - Days

The Company

The steel leaving this factory becomes part of the buildings, industrial facilities and major construction projects taking shape across the UK. Behind every finished structure is a production team that needs the right leadership to keep work moving, maintain quality and get orders out on time.

An established, structural steelwork business is looking for a Deputy Works Manager to help lead its day-shift operations. The foundations are there. They need someone who can bring the workforce together, maintain standards and make sure production delivers what the wider business depends on.

The Role

You will work alongside the Works Manager, helping run the factory floor and making the decisions that keep production on track. From managing people and resources to tackling problems before they affect delivery, this is a hands-on leadership role where your presence will make a difference.

  • Lead day-shift production teams, keeping output, quality and safety standards where they need to be.

  • Drive production efficiency by coordinating labour, machinery and materials around the work that needs completing.

  • Manage attendance, performance and conduct fairly and consistently, maintaining clear expectations across the workforce.

  • Maintain a safe working environment, challenging unsafe practices and ensuring procedures are followed.

  • Coordinate with other departments, subcontractors and suppliers to keep work flowing and resolve issues before they cause delays.

  • Support the Works Manager with production reporting, operational decisions and improvements that help the factory perform better.

The Candidate

You will know what it takes to run a production team, deal with problems on the shop floor and keep people accountable without losing their respect. You are ready to take on greater responsibility and want a role that could lead to more senior operational positions.

Essential:

  • Previous experience supervising or managing teams within a production, manufacturing, fabrication or engineering environment.

  • A practical understanding of production processes, workflow and operational efficiency.

  • Experience maintaining health and safety standards in a factory or workshop setting.

  • The ability to address performance and conduct issues professionally and make decisions when required.

Desirable:

  • Experience within structural steelwork, steel fabrication or heavy engineering.

  • Experience coordinating labour, machinery and materials against production requirements.

  • An ambition to progress into senior works or operations management.

The Benefits

  • A permanent day-shift position within an established, successful business.

  • The opportunity to influence how production operates and help drive improvements across the factory.

  • A clear progression pathway towards senior operational leadership.

  • The chance to contribute to structural steel projects across the UK.

  • A competitive salary and benefits package, reflecting your experience.
