Are you an experienced Contracts Manager with a strong structural steel background looking for your next career move?

This is an opportunity to join an established structural steel contractor with decades of experience in detailing, fabrication and erection, delivering projects of up to 2,000 tonnes across the industrial and commercial sectors.

You'll take responsibility for the successful delivery of structural steel contracts, working across site management, subcontractors, programme, quality, health & safety and commercial performance.

The Role

As Contracts Manager, you'll be responsible for managing projects from a contractual and operational perspective, ensuring work is delivered safely, to the required quality standards and within agreed programme and budget requirements.

You'll work closely with site foremen, steel erectors, subcontractors, senior management and clients, keeping everyone informed of progress while identifying and managing commercial and contractual risks.

This is a hands-on position for someone who understands structural steel fabrication and erection and is comfortable taking ownership of live projects.

What You'll Be Doing

• Manage and supervise site foremen, steel erectors and subcontractors.
• Oversee subcontractor selection and monitor on-site performance and progress.
• Ensure projects maintain the highest standards of quality and health & safety.
• Keep senior management updated on site progress, programme and commercial issues.
• Proactively identify, assess and mitigate commercial and contractual risks.
• Maintain robust site records covering labour, plant, materials and other project resources.
• Ensure accurate records are maintained to support cost substantiation for changes, delays and additional works.
• Record and manage variations and additions on a monthly basis.
• Ensure contractual requirements and notice periods are followed.
• Assist with the preparation and agreement of project final accounts.
• Attend site and project meetings and ensure commercial matters are addressed.
• Investigate and help resolve project issues before they impact programme or cost.
• Work closely with clients, subcontractors and internal teams throughout project delivery.

About You

We're looking for someone with genuine structural steel site experience who understands the technical and commercial realities of steel fabrication and erection.

You'll ideally have:

• 3+ years' site experience working with structural steel.
• Previous experience in a Contracts Manager or similar project management position.
• Ideally, experience working for a structural steel fabricator or specialist steelwork contractor.
• Strong understanding of structural steel fabrication and erection.
• Experience managing site teams, steel erectors and subcontractors.
• Experience working on a variety of contracts, particularly industrial and commercial projects.
• Experience with high-rise or technically demanding steelwork projects would be advantageous.
• Ability to read and understand technical specifications and drawings.
• Strong commercial and contractual awareness.
• Ability to prioritise effectively while working to demanding programme, quality and budget requirements.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
• A conscientious and self-disciplined approach.
• Competent Microsoft Office skills.

Technical Knowledge

Knowledge or experience with construction and structural steel software such as:

• Tekla
• StruMIS
• AutoCAD
• Trimble Connect

You'll also ideally have an understanding of relevant quality, environmental, health & safety and steelwork standards, including:

• ISO 9001
• ISO 14001
• ISO 45001
• ISO 50001
• CE Marking / Execution Classes
