Are you an experienced Contracts Manager with a strong background in structural steelwork and a passion for delivering projects safely, efficiently and profitably?

This is an opportunity to join a specialist steelwork business delivering bespoke projects across the construction and infrastructure sectors. You'll take ownership of allocated contracts from planning through to completion, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget and to the highest standards of quality and safety.

Working closely with clients, principal contractors, subcontractors and internal teams, you'll play a key role in successful project delivery while building relationships that support long-term business growth.

The Opportunity

As Contracts Manager, you'll have responsibility for the day-to-day management and commercial performance of your projects, coordinating people, resources and subcontractors to achieve agreed programme and financial targets.

You'll combine strong project management skills with commercial awareness, technical understanding and the ability to lead teams effectively across both office-based and site-based activities.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the safe, timely and profitable delivery of allocated steelwork projects from start to finish.

  • Coordinating company personnel, subcontractors and site teams to ensure projects are properly resourced and delivered to programme.

  • Maintaining strong relationships with clients, principal contractors, design teams and other key stakeholders.

  • Monitoring project progress, maintaining programmes and providing regular updates against key milestones.

  • Managing project risks, resolving issues and identifying opportunities to improve performance and profitability.

  • Working closely with Quantity Surveyors on valuations, applications for payment, contractual notices, variations and financial reporting.

  • Ensuring subcontractor performance, resource levels and outputs meet contractual requirements.

  • Maintaining high standards of health and safety, quality, environmental compliance and project documentation.

  • Preparing and reviewing risk assessments and method statements for site activities.

  • Supporting tender submissions and business development activities through technical input, programme planning and delivery expertise.

  • Attending key site meetings and installation activities, including occasional weekend or overnight working where project requirements dictate.

What We're Looking For

You'll bring a strong understanding of the construction industry and the complete project delivery process, alongside the leadership skills needed to manage multiple stakeholders and keep projects moving forward.

Essential experience and skills:

  • Proven experience managing contracts or projects within structural steelwork or a closely related construction environment.

  • Strong technical understanding of steelwork fabrication, installation and engineering drawings.

  • Experience managing client relationships, main contractors, subcontractors and site teams.

  • Knowledge of construction contracts, including NEC forms of contract.

  • Strong commercial awareness, including project costs, valuations, variations and contractual obligations.

  • Experience developing and maintaining project programmes, managing risks and monitoring progress.

  • A good understanding of construction health and safety and quality requirements.

  • Excellent leadership, communication, organisation and problem-solving skills.

  • Confident IT skills, including Microsoft Office.

  • A full UK driving licence and flexibility to attend sites as required.

Experience with Tekla, MS Project, claims management, procurement, quantity surveying or relevant industry qualifications such as SMSTS, CSCS or PTS would be advantageous.

What's on Offer?

  • £60,000 - £65,000 salary, depending on experience.

  • 33 days' annual leave, including bank holidays.

  • Company pension.

  • Comprehensive employee assistance programme, including mental health, wellbeing, financial support and access to 24/7 GP appointments.

  • Free on-site parking.

  • Early finish on Fridays.
