Contracts Manager - Structural Steel

When you're managing structural steel projects, keeping the steelwork moving is only part of the job. You need control of the site team, subcontractors, programme, quality, safety and commercial position from start to finish.

This is an opportunity for an experienced Contracts Manager to join an established structural steelwork specialist, taking responsibility for the successful delivery of projects across the industrial and commercial sectors.

You'll work closely with site teams, subcontractors, clients and senior management, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and commercially under control.

The Role

As Contracts Manager, you'll have responsibility for managing structural steel projects from a site and commercial perspective.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing and supervising site foremen, steel erectors and subcontractors

  • Selecting and managing subcontractors and monitoring their performance

  • Overseeing site progress and ensuring projects remain on programme

  • Maintaining the highest standards of quality and health & safety

  • Keeping senior management updated on project progress and commercial issues

  • Identifying, assessing and mitigating commercial and contractual risks

  • Maintaining robust site records covering labour, plant, materials, staff and other project resources

  • Ensuring accurate records are maintained to support costs, variations and delays

  • Managing variations and additions in accordance with contract requirements

  • Supporting the preparation of project final accounts

  • Attending regular site and project meetings

  • Ensuring commercial matters are identified, discussed and resolved promptly

  • Working closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to overcome project challenges

  • Ensuring contractual and commercial documentation is accurate, up to date and properly maintained

What We're Looking For

We're looking for an experienced Contracts Manager with a strong understanding of structural steel fabrication and erection.

You'll ideally have:

  • At least 3 years' site experience within structural steel

  • Previous Contracts Management experience, ideally with a structural steelwork fabricator

  • Strong knowledge of structural steel fabrication and erection

  • Experience managing steel erectors, foremen and subcontractors

  • Experience working across industrial and commercial projects

  • Experience with a range of contract types and project environments

  • The ability to read and understand technical drawings and specifications

  • Strong commercial awareness and understanding of contractual risk

  • Experience managing variations, delays and project records

  • Knowledge of construction software such as StruMIS, AutoCAD, Trimble Connect or Tekla would be advantageous

  • Knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and ISO 50001

  • Understanding of CE Marking / Execution Class requirements

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills

  • The ability to prioritise effectively under tight programme, quality and budget constraints

  • Competent Microsoft Office skills

  • A conscientious, self-disciplined and proactive approach
