£500 Per Day

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a SEN Manager to work in Enfield within the People Department. The postholder will perform all statutory SEN work and manage a competent team of three team leaders and two team managers. The ideal candidate will have strong legal knowledge and a confident manner.

Job overview:

To provide, manage and develop an effective and efficient SEN Service in respect of the statutory procedures for the assessment, planning, and annual review of pupils, including the provision and placement made for students with special educational needs and any challenge to the LA in the form of tribunals or from the Local Government Ombudsman, legal representatives or elected Members or MPs.

To develop the SEN Services team to ensure the management and co-ordination of the associated casework of pupils and students who require statutory assessment and review as part of a systematic and integrated approach to the provision for meeting their special educational needs.

The SEN manager will manage, co-ordinate and oversee the work of all staff that you have line management for in the service. To ensure that the service is adequately and appropriately staffed to provide effectively for its various functions and that staff are appropriately inducted, trained and developed as well as ensuring that the formal performance assessment of staff takes place. To deal with any HR issues including the recruitment of staff, probationary reviews, disciplinary/capability/grievance issues, performance assessment reviews and absence management within the team.

Knowledge and Qualifications:

  • Deep knowledge of SEN and the Code of Practice
  • Clear understanding of how a LA successfully discharges its responsibilities for SEN & D
  • Good understanding of current legislation and national policy developments in relation to SEN & D.
  • Specialist knowledge of children's Special Educational Needs and disabilities
  • Knowledge of the Special Educational Needs Code of Practice and Statutory Assessment process.
  • Educated to degree level.
  • Evidence of continuing relevant professional development.
  • Relevant post graduate qualification, or extensive experience of working in SEN for a Local Authority
